Carter, Lee Lee Carter, 68, died December 16, 2012, with his family by his side in Dallas, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at 10:30am at University Park United Methodist Church. After the service, a reception will be held in Fellowship Hall at UPUMC. Lee was born September 10, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to Dorothy Harris and William L. Carter, Jr. Lee spent almost all of his life in Dallas, graduating from Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University (BBA and JD). Lee's only times away from Dallas were for his freshman year of college at Southwestern University and to attend business school at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where he received his MBA. He married Martha Gravely at University Park United Methodist Church on June 3, 1967. After a long career in the insurance business with Alexander & Alexander, Lee went on to work for a series of non-profits including the Dallas Museum of Natural History and the Dallas Holocaust Museum, before retiring from Jubilee Park & Community Center in December 2011. Through the years, Lee was very active in the Dallas community, and his current involvement included Dallas Summer Musicals, Dallas Holocaust Museum, Salesmanship Club of Dallas, UPUMC Foundation, White Rock Lake Conservancy, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and the City of Dallas Cultural Affairs Commission. Lee was also a member of Dallas Country Club, University Park United Methodist Church, The Town & Gown Club, Dallas Museum of Art, The Turtle Creek Breakfast Club, and The Dallas Holocaust Museum and Center for Education and Tolerance. Lee and his family had many wonderful times at their family farm in Sanger, Texas, and at Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA of the Rockies in Colorado. Lee was preceded in death by his father William Lee Carter, Jr.; his grandparents Mabel and William L. Carter, Sr. and Hallie and Felix Harris. Lee is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha Gravely Carter; mother Dorothy Harris Carter; sisters Carol Utkov (Gary) and Mollie Newman (Dub); three children and their spouses, Carita and Phillip Youngblood, Grant and Charlotte Carter, and Gravely and Storey Wilson; six grandchildren; and countless other family members and close friends. Honorary pallbearers include some of Lee's closest friends: George Coleman, Mike Tabor, Mike Wylie, Paul Burch, Chris Gilson, Matt Williams, John Alexander, and Gig Langston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jubilee Park & Community Center, Dallas Holocaust Museum, Goodwill Industries of Dallas, Salesmanship Club of Dallas, UPUMC Foundation or a charity of your choice.
